Here is another of those passages that we are tempted to skip over as we read God's word. We find in this passage long lists of names hard to pronounce and places hard to place on our map of the world today. You may be tempted to ask, "So why do I have to read it?" We find our answer in verse forty-nine of chapter twenty-one.
Joshua 21:45 There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.
All of this is recorded as a faith booster. We see God's promise to Abraham to provide a land with houses they did not build, wells they did not dig, and crops they did not plant being fulfilled. Time could not prevent the promises of God from becoming a reality. Four hundred years of slavery in a foreign land could not prevent the fulfillment of God's promise. A forty year delay because of their unbelief world prove nothing more than a delay as God works out His plan for His people. Great enemies and challenges would prove no hindrance to the God that had sworn by Himself because there is no higher. We can take great comfort in the fact that God lets nothing stand in the way of His promises to His people. Our faith can rest securely in the promises of God.
