I Chronicles 15-22 - Let's Try It Again

1 Chronicles 15:11-13   And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab,  12 And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.  13 For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.

Chapter fifteen records David's second attempt to bring the Ark of God into the city of Jerusalem.  His first attempt, described in chapter thirteen, appeared to start out well but ended in utter failure.  The Ark did not make it to Jerusalem and Uzzah lay on the ground dead.  Chapter sixteen declares this second effort to have resulted in success.  So what made the difference?

David's statement in verse thirteen seems to hold the secret to success.  He said they had failed to seek God after the due order.  Verse fifteen describes their effort to seek God after the due order-- 1 Chronicles 15:15   And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the LORD.  They elected to follow the direction of Scripture instead of the example of the world or the desire of their hearts to bring up the Ark.  There was no new cart, but instead, the Ark was carried on the shoulders of the Levites in accordance with God's word.  The music, apparel, and the whole procession was in accordance with God's words.

From this we can see that "the due order" means ordered in accordance to the word of God.  We see that God has prescribed how He desires to be worshiped.  It is totally different from what the world terms worship.  It may, at times, not fit the desires of our hearts, but the important thing is that we seek to worship God, serve God, and even witness of God's Gospel according to His directions in the word of God. Let us examine our lives and see if our life is a seeking of God after the due order or just what we think is right. It is a matter of life and death.
