II Kings 24-I Chronicles 6: Let Me Get This Straight, He's the Son of Who?

If you have just read the first six chapters of I Chronicles you can read this post silently while you continue working on untying your tongue.  The question when going through a passage of Scripture of this nature is always, Why? Why all these names of long dead people have been immortalized in Holy Writ?  Why do people keep saying we need to read the WHOLE Bible when it contains passages of this nature which serve no purpose for those of us alive today?

I could have chosen to avoid these valid questions by posting something dealing with the last two chapters of II Kings, but I decided I am not taking the coward's way out.  I read these six chapters of names and places long dissolved into antiquity along with you and I encourage you to read them again when you pass this way in your Bible reading time.  "Why should I?" you ask.  Through this passage we find out some exciting and encouraging things about God's dealings with man.  We see God's affirmation of the creation account of Genesis by beginning this record of genealogies with Adam.  This says the creation account is not an isolated myth but the message of God throughout Scripture.  Next, we see the orderliness of God.  Those who cry out in opposition to organized religion find a stern reproof in God's record of His great organization in the world of man.  We must realize that the God who organized every aspect of human life has also organized the worship and service man renders to God.  Lastly, I see in this long list of names the personal nature of God's care for all of us.  Here we see the names if such men as Nimrod and Abraham immortalized together.  It thrills me to know that God knows my name and your name. This list is a wonderful reminder of the individual care of God for each of us.

Luke 12:6-7   Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?  7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
