Well it has been almost a month since as a Church we have committed to read the entirety of God's word. In this first month we have read 240 chapters of God's Bible already. This is a tremendous accomplishment. There have no doubt been many obstacles to continuing that we have all encountered like the hard to pronounce names and places, seemingly endless lists, and the natural animosity of the flesh against God's wonderful word. At this point God provides us with three points of encouragement to help us to continue in our commitment to God to read His word in its entirety over the next five months.
1 Samuel 3:1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
The word of God is precious to His children. We must understand the great value or worth of the Bible by coming to the realization that it is the sole means that God has chosen to speak to us in this age. Hebrews 1:1-2 tells us that God used prophets and visions but in this age has chosen to speak to us by His Son, the Word, only. We need to continue reading the Bible because it is how God speaks to us today.
1 Samuel 3:19 And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
The word of God is trustworthy. In this verse, the words of God are described as not falling to the ground implying that all God promised came to pass. We should continue reading God's word because it will give us a sure word on what God has in store for us. Peter declares God's word to be more trustworthy than what we have seen with our eyes. We have the wisdom of God's word available to direct our lives to an expected end if we will read and follow it.
1 Samuel 3:21 And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
God reveals Himself to us through His word. The Bible is not a book of rules but God's revelation of Himself to man. All of us need to know God better. It is a fact that we humans are prone to create gods in our own image and we will even remake God into an image to our liking according to Romans chapter one. In this day, when mankind is seeking a god that accepts all manners of sinful thoughts and deeds, we need a clean vision of the God of Heaven. We will know what God likes and hates if we read the Bible in which God has revealed these things. We can know God's purpose for our lives if we will continue in the word of God to see what God has revealed about His will. We will know the only means of salvation for all of humanity if we will read the Bible in which God has revealed the Gospel of God.
Three great reasons to read the entire Bible- God speaks to us from It; God is faithful to carry out the promises in It; God reveals Himself to us in It- are presented in First Samuel Chapter three. It seems like God is saying to us, "Keep reading! It only gets better!"
II Corinthians 5:1-10; Revelation 21:1-4 Promise of Eternity
